Mesquite & Koa box - Gecko - 12-10-2016

I made this box a couple of months ago for entry into The Northwest Woodworkers Gallery box and Container show. Unfortunately, when I went down to drop it off the second week in November, I was told that the Board had decided a couple of weeks before to cancel the show and that they were closing their brick and mortar store. I must say this news saddened me very much. This show had become one of my favorite holiday events. Anyway, I present the Mesquite and Koa box for your viewing pleasure.

Description:
This box is made from Mesquite with a figured Koa top panel. It was designed with a four corner grain match allowing the grain to flow around the box smoothly. The dimensions are approx. 9 x 4 x 3 1/4" overall height. The whole box has been finished with a drying oil and buffed out with Caranuba wax. The hinges are made by Brusso. The liner is a synthetic.

$150

Great job. I miss making boxes in the shop, I love the top on that one. Every detail looks perfect.

I have the beginnings of a spaulted maple box still sitting on the bench. It was started the first week of September, just before my fall and thebright femur break.

That is sad news about the gallery. I felt they were one of the few bright lights in woodworker show spaces.

I really like the box - it is hard to beat a nice Koa piece - but your price is way low to me.

Beautiful box.  I have some mesquite I picked up in Phoenix to make a box to hold some mementos from some javelina hunts west of Tucson.  I'll be pleased if is half as nice as yours.

Impressive. Took the time to look at the other boxes on your web site --http://www.geckosboxes.com/index.asp. Very nice work. The "tutorials" were very informative. Great web site

Mesquite can be difficult to match sometimes. One piece may be red, another brown or yellowish or very dark. You did good.

Thanks. I appreciate the comments.

Got to meet Gecko a few years back packing lumber from one side of the state to the other for little buddy dave.
Saw a couple of his boxes in the shop there, might fine work he does.

Did you find a source for the Brusso hinges?  At my local woodycraft I want to say they push $40 after tax..
