Flag case for Burial Flag - Firebee - 02-12-2017

I get to make one. Any hints?  My plans are air dried walnut and finger joints for the miters. Think I'll do a triangle with a base. I have googled it of course and have ideas for the size. looking for help from someone who has made one. It is to honor my Dad.

There are many plans online; Woodworkers Journal has made a good plan and article available:

Many of us have made one or more Honor Flag cases.
We're here to help if you need it.

Step one in the process is measure the size, length and height, of the folded flag and step two is to build a mock up from cardboard then test fit as the article suggest. http://www.woodworkersjournal.com/making...flag-case/   Choice of wood and joinery is yours.  As said, we are standing by to help.

Wood Magazine also has a nice plan, their's eliminate the extreme angles on the base. Best on the case, and sorry for your loss....many thanks to your Dad for his service!

I've changed my mind over the years and now prefer a rectangular case. I like some of the red and white of the flag to show.

This is what I made for my Dad's flag. I copied a design by a member here but I for the life of me can't remember his name. There is a clear glass over the display area in the bottom that I had engraved. In the bottom pic I put a dark cloth behind it to show it better. The Oak I used happened to be some of the last lumber he helped me knock down and mill up, and it was his favorite. Seemed fitting.

That looks like the Ed Salle design (Waxing Moon, I think) and he released that to the public domain. He had the plans in Sketchup, and i saved a copy at the time. I'd have to find it, but I may still have that buried in my files somewhere.

Yes! Thank you!  I knew his site was named _____Moon but I couldnt find it. I had talked with him about it before I made it, and shared it with him when I was through.
