Deck joist overhang - ronnn - 02-18-2017 I have a deck, about 2 feet off the ground, we are replacing the deck boards and joists. My question is, how far can I overhang the big beam with 2x8 joists Thanks Ron RE: Deck joist overhang - Splinter Puller - 02-18-2017 http://www.decks.com/how-to/43/deck-joist-cantilever-rules-and-limits RE: Deck joist overhang - museumguy - 02-18-2017 will this help ? http://www.deckmagazine.com/design-construction/framing/cantilevers-in-the-2015-code_o RE: Deck joist overhang - rwe2156 - 02-20-2017 Hey I was gonna say 2' !! ![]() RE: Deck joist overhang - crokett™ - 02-20-2017 (02-18-2017, 09:49 PM)Splinter Puller Wrote: http://www.decks.com/how-to/43/deck-joist-cantilever-rules-and-limits ok so riddle me this. the table in that link says with joists on 12" centers the cantilever is less than if the joists are on 2' centers? that doesn't really make sense. That is what I was thinking RE: Deck joist overhang - Roly - 02-20-2017 I was thinking the same. The only thing if the joist size changes between the 12" & 24" centers such as going from a 2x6 for 12" and 2x10 for 24" for the same loading I could see a difference in the bending of the joist. They have their joist width numbers transposed. The way they have it now you can over hang more if the spacing is 24"oc than if they are 12"oc... That's backwards...
