bookcase plans - geraldonj - 04-11-2017 ![]() Anyone have plans to build this bookcase, or any construction suggestions For rectangular boxes,I would use finger joints. Not sure how to construct the trapezoidal boxes. Would half lap joints have sufficent strength? RE: bookcase plans - ®smpr_fi_mac® - 04-11-2017 Designing that with Sketchup would be surprisingly easy. I've seen simple methods for angled dovetails cut by hand; I imagine there are methods for box joints, too. RE: bookcase plans - ®smpr_fi_mac® - 04-11-2017 Looking at the upper left corner, after magnifying the image, those are either DT's or very large box joints. Looks like loose tenons (or through tenons) on the non-edge pieces. RE: bookcase plans - ®smpr_fi_mac® - 04-11-2017 How would you create half laps here? I don't think they're used or would be sufficiently strong. RE: bookcase plans - ®smpr_fi_mac® - 04-11-2017 Nope. I see the box/DT on the ends and what appear to be loose/through tenons otherwise. Or dowels, maybe. RE: bookcase plans - Steve N - 04-11-2017 Cute bookcase. My Grand Niece, is that even a relationship? Sisters Granddaughter is away at College, asked me for a bookcase. I have between 2 and 3' width, and floor to ceiling as a limiter, should be easy. ![]() RE: bookcase plans - geraldonj - 04-12-2017 A modest amount of detail would be appropiate. I had figured on box joints at the corners but I am opent to suggestions. Incidently, the case should be 31" wide and approximately 84" high. It will be painted and I had planned to use 1x8 pine. Thanks again. RE: bookcase plans - geraldonj - 04-12-2017 Iwas going with the 7.5" depth. RE: bookcase plans - geraldonj - 04-12-2017 Yes, 1/4" ply for the back. RE: bookcase plans - Gabby - 04-12-2017 That is so cool to offer your expertiese with a plan . Gary |
