Spoon carved from knotty wood - Ohio Mike - 05-06-2017

This video gives me a new perspective on choosing wood for spoon carving.  So far, I've been tossing wood with knots in favor of clear lumber but this guy shows how to make a beautiful spoon from a piece of walnut that I would have thrown away.

Thanks for the post Mike. I hadn't seen this Ford guy before. His video page starts weird, but the ones near the top are like a several hour class on spoon and treenware making.

He's new to me too.  After watching a couple of his spoon videos, I subscribed.

Real nice work.

What he does with the wild grain just makes sense, he didn't fight it, rather he just followed it. The thing that I learned the most there was carving out the spoon, before messing with the handle. I feel like Doh, half my challenge has been working a piece of wood want to walk all over on me. Keeping it a solid block until the easier stuff, well like I said Doh
