I agree with all of the above (I have the Jet).
I'm not sure about using it with small parts though.

I have the Jet 6 X 80 oscillating one. It used to be my favorite, but after I moved I can't get that thing to track right. Even after a couple hours fiddling with it no joy. So now it sits in a corner of the shop...alone...unused...sad...

You very well could have a bad belt. Poorly made belts or especially belts of low quality will stretch on one side more than the other and tracking becomes a nightmare. Try a different belt, preferably one of high quality with either a cotton or polyester backing. Paper backed belts are useless and I never recommend them for anyone so if you are trying to use a paper backed belt I bet that is your problem.

Or it's possible he has some bearing issues on the adjustable end roller.
I have the non oscillating jet 6x89 sander and use it about every project.

Good point. The roller itself could be damaged. I am not sure if they are crowned or not but if it is crowned and is now worn down flat tracking will got to pot.

I have the Jet Oscillating Belt sander and I use it on most projects. The video review is pretty good. Only problem I had on mine was the plastic fan on the bottom of the motor disintegrated shooting pieces of plastic blades around and scaring the crap out of me. Jet couldn't supply the plastic fan (No part number) but the CS rep found a note that the metal fan from a PM2000 worked fine and he was right. Only downsides is that I wish the platen area was bigger/longer - I've had some drawer boxes that are pushing the limits of this machine and some doors are too long for this unit. Also, the table is heavy and awkward to adjust up/down as there is just a lock knob on either end of the table. Oscillation works well and the unit leaves a good finish. Dust collection is so-so as described in the video. Overall, I'd probably buy this unit again if I couldn't find a deal on one with a longer belt.

The bearings are fine, I tested the roller without a belt and it was very smooth. There is a very slight crown on it. I'll try a different belt (I'll have to, the one I tried got shredded).
Maybe I try to work on it again when I get some time, I really liked the machine.
