Old Diston Saw - petertay15 - 07-02-2017

This old saw could be restored. All it needs is a new handle and a new blade.
Sorry about the oversize photo.

Might know where a handle might be..

Maybe a whole stack?

Not much help on the plates, though....

Disston D-16?

RE: Old Diston Saw - JimReed@Tallahassee - 07-03-2017

The nut pattern does look D-16 ish. Does it have a wheat pattern? Maybe this saw CAN be saved.

RE: Old Diston Saw - bandit571 - 07-03-2017

I'll go later and see....I think I have one with, and one without wheat carving....

RE: Old Diston Saw - bandit571 - 07-03-2017

Went and checked...have a D-16 style handle in both carved and  plain styles  Have no plates that will work with them, good ones, anyway.   Even have a few bolts in brass and steel...medallions are stamped as Warranted Superior....there is an AAA  Atkins medallion in the pile, as well.

RE: Old Diston Saw - bandit571 - 07-03-2017

Actually they be a No. 16 handle. or...No. 76 handle

I did find the skew back plate for the Atkins saw....8ppi skew.  I guess NOW I'll have to rehab that one, next...

The No. 16 and/or the No. 76 handles are orphans....

Ah, pictures..

This may be the "elder" of the two..

However, this one does have the carving....The #2 holes do not line up between the two handles.

As for the Atkins handle?

Sorry, have found a plate that matches..

So I guess I'll have to clean it up.....would be nice to know it's model number, though.....I will try to find an etch..
