Cleaning up a lever cap - JimReed@Tallahassee - 09-28-2017

I was in the boneyard today and scrounged a #78 lever cap to use on my #72 frankenplane user. Then I went to visit my slow speed grinder which has a Scotchbrite wheel attached.

As you can see, the lever cap is "less than pristine."

But a minute on the wheel made the screw head bright again.

Then I used a regular SB pad on the body and followed up with some Johnsons paste wax.

Ahh. That's much better. And it only took a few minutes.

Where did you purchase the SB pad? I've been looking at Lowes and HD but its been a no-go.

I got my last one from that famous on line auction site. It cost about $30. Look for "deburring wheel"

It always amazes me when something old is cleaned up and looking new and shiny again.

On another note, I'm a couple of months away from relocating from the left coast to Orlando.  I am going to miss the dry, rustless environment I currently enjoy, but I won't miss high taxes, high gas prices, and state income tax.  I'm fortunate this move is paid for by my company.

From the left coast to the best coast. Welcome to FL.
