Saturday morning Garage sale.... - bandit571 - 10-17-2017 Had a simple description...."Tools".... So...15 minute drive, spend $9....plus what the Boss bought Picked five items...should have gotten a lot more but, I am trying to maintain some self control ( this may take a few posts..... ) [attachment=5093] @ $2 each...Shelton No. 18 Low Angle block plane, and a Millers Falls #900 ( 1950) [attachment=5094] A pair of French Goldenberg planes.....about a #3 size....maybe even a #2? ( irons are 1-5/8" wide) And, for just a dollar bill.. [attachment=5095] 26" long, skew back 8ppi, filed crosscut ( and VERY SHARP!).... [attachment=5096] Richardson Brothers No. 8 As for the french logos... [attachment=5097] Cast steel, warranted.... Next episode will be the rehab....stay tuned... RE: Saturday morning Garage sale.... - bandit571 - 10-17-2017 Ok, the iron/steel planes first... [attachment=5098] Shelton No. 18 [attachment=5099] And the Millers Falls No. 900 [attachment=5100] Rear handle was cracked, and taped up. Removed the tape, glued the parts back together... [attachment=5101] Sharpened the iron so it could make some shavings.... Tried to rehab one of the French planes... [attachment=5102] This was as good as I could get it....was just too much wrong with that 1875 wood body....too much wear & tear... Next episode coming right up ( not boring anyone? ) Stay tuned RE: Saturday morning Garage sale.... - bandit571 - 10-17-2017 Ok, episode three....Remember all these treasures cost me a whopping $9.... The Richardson Brothers No. 8 saw, all cleaned up.. [attachment=5103] Did NOT need sharpened. Shined the brass a bit.. [attachment=5104] Note that they used a smaller bolt for the bottom one? They called it an "Extra Rivet" [attachment=5105] Tried to "clock" the slots.....medallion one seemed to be in a different "Time Zone" Gave up on the first French plane....second one is still be worked on....may need a new wedge.. [attachment=5106] Bit fancier..has two logos [attachment=5107] One for the iron, one for the chipbreaker. Wedge is lopsided, too slick, too beat up.....after a trip or two along a board, I needed to adjust the cutter....wedge kept sliding out. I have some Hard Maple to use for a new wedge....we'll see. Not too bad of a haul, for $9 ? RE: Saturday morning Garage sale.... - hbmcc - 10-18-2017 Cool! It's fun to watch other people collect and hoard, too. Mine is just everything.... RE: Saturday morning Garage sale.... - Tynyyn - 10-18-2017 The French planes will probably be cutting to the left constantly. Good haul, but could you tell if the owner was a previous woodworker or was he just somebody who collected things? Pretty rare in these parts to see any European tools. |
