Goliath CNC - brianwelch - 11-01-2017
I just came across the kickstarter campaign for this tool:

Seems targeted more toward 2 dimension work than 3D, as it travels on the surface of the base material...
I have zero experience with CNC, and am curious about the reactions/opinions of those that have used a CNC...

There is already one (The Shaper) on the market that this place is trying to do. They use a kind of tape to register the cnc router with.

Neat. The biggest problem I see is the wheels dropping into the machined path. Build up of chips would be something you need to address (even though they say it's not a problem.) You could rig up an air line to solve that problem. Oh, another issue is that it only has a .004" resolution.... we all know that isn't close enough for wood work.

I am not a CNC person, but the concept sounds good, limitless CNC. But in application I agree with Mark, it's a toy, gonna get rerouted every time it get's into a track. crack or whatever, needs weight, and BIG wheels/tires. That all said does the software do what real CNC software does?

And when you give close a million dollars to a guy that make skateboards and surf boards with like 20 on the rack.... well this is what some other backers have learned from other lofty ideas:
