Marking Gauges for Sale - HANDTOOL - Bibliophile 13 - 01-19-2018

I'm selling two marking gauges that I made.  Asking $40 for each one, plus shipping ($8 to the CONUS).

Gauge #1: Small

This pin-style marking gauge is made from American black cherry and spalted pecan.  The pecan face on the fence will last a long time with normal use.  The unique "bell" shape of the fence allows for an ergonomic grip.  The locking mechanism is a simple captured wedge; push with your thumb to lock the arm; push the other way to unlock.  (Tap the wedged dowel on the bench for extra locking power.)  The pin is hardened steel and is sharpened to an oval profile.  If you sharpen it down, just tap the top with a hammer to extend the cutter.  It marks best with the grain will mark pretty cleanly across the grain with light pressure.  This gauge is fairly small (see dimensions below) and will fit a smaller hand--or smaller tool chest--perfectly.

Dimensions: fence is 2 3/8" wide X 2" tall; arm is 6" long.

Price: $40 plus shipping.

Gauge #2: Regular Size

I use a gauge this size on every project, and the size suits me well because the fence is wider than most other marking gauges have and registers easily on the reference surface.

Dimensions: fence is #2 5/8" wide X 2 3/8" tall; arm is 7" long.

Price: $40 plus shipping.

If I didn’t already own two of Steve’s gauges, I’d get another in a heartbeat. They are well made, work great, and nice looking! Perfect to have an extra for your toolbox.
