Full extension slide question - Pirate - 02-09-2018
The cabinets in our house have cheapo side slides, that don't open all the way. Thinking of replacing with ball bearing full ext. ones.
The cheapo ones are mounted to the sides of the drawers at the bottom edge. The slide on the drawer, has a lip that the drawer sits on. The front of the cabinet part of the slide, sits on the top of the face frame opening for the for the drawer.
With that design, alignment is almost goof proof.
Are there any full ext. (preferably soft closing) slides that mount this way? Brands? Source?

I have similar "builder's grade" cabinets in my kitchen. A couple of the drawers fell apart and I replaced them and used full extension drawer glides from Lowes. An off-brand.
KV makes side mount soft close slides. I buy from AH Turf and they don't carry KV.

The issue with cabinet hardware is that if you buy from the wrong source you can end up overpaying by huge amounts. So shop carefully.
KV has a good reputation from what I've seen.

I've never heard of that design in a full extension slide. Just wanted to mention, though, that it's easy to make spacers off of the face frame, rest a conventional full-extension slide on it, screw it in and have perfect alignment -- above the face frame.

As long as the old slides only take up a 1/2" of space on each side. it's a no brainer to install FE BB slides in place of them.

+1 on the soft close slides.
If they are overlay drawers you should be able to set the front bottom edge of the slide on the face frame.
You will need support brackets for the rear.

Another answer to a question you didn't ask. I don't know of a BB side-mount slide that mounts as you described. If you decide to go with conventional side-mount BB slides, look at Lee Valley. They have a good selection, including self-closing, full extension, slides and they are currently offering FREE SHIPPING for orders over $40. Drawer slides are heavy and shipping costs can be considerable if you order multiple slides. I've ordered slides form Lee Valley twice, taking advantage of their free shipping offer. I have been very satisfied and I saved a bunch of money.

You might also check Custom Service Hardware (cshardware.com)., They have a very large slection of drawer slides. You might find the style you're looking for there. I've had good experience with them too.
