Confirmat screws - Cooler - 03-31-2018 I want to try out the Confirmat screws on my next cabinet project. AH Turf carries them. They list several sizes and I don’t know which size to get. They list 5mm x 40mm (5mm x 1.57”) and 5mm x 50mm (5mm x 1.97”), They also list 7mm but I probably want to stick with the 5mm screws. They list them “with hole” and “without hole” and I have no idea what that means. They also sell step bits (perhaps “steep bits” makes more sense.). It appears to be a set of 4 bits in HS steel for $120.00 or a set of 4 in carbide for $160.00. Turf is a good vendor, but they don’t supply much information in their website—probably because they are mostly dealing with professionals. http://ahturf.com/store/index.php?route=product/category&path=26941_1682_3582_3584 Any guidance will be appreciated. RE: Confirmat screws - jteneyck - 03-31-2018 You can buy Confirmat screws and, yes, step drills, at Amazon. Link I've used them w/o buying any special drill bits, but it would be faster if you had one. Sorry, no clue what AH Turf meant by with or w/o hole. John RE: Confirmat screws - gjohn - 04-01-2018 I believe the hole is short hole along the axis of the screw which allows plastic caps to be attached to the screw head. The plastic caps have a small stud that fits into the hole in the screw. RE: Confirmat screws - Cooler - 04-02-2018 The site says that they have experts available if I call. I think I will call. Thanks for the replies. Cooler RE: Confirmat screws - Stwood_ - 04-02-2018 Yes get the bits that go with the screws. RE: Confirmat screws - rwe2156 - 04-02-2018 7mm for 3/4 material and 5mm for 5/8. I buy all my confirmat from either McFeeleys or Woodworkers supply. IME they are THE best screws for melamine particle board. Definitely get the bits. McFeely's prices by the 100 pieces and AH Turf prices by the 50 pound box. RE: Confirmat screws - KLaz - 04-02-2018 (04-02-2018, 11:28 AM)Cooler Wrote: I'm going to use it on plywood. You must use the step drill. Especially on plywood. You'll blow it apart if you don't. Honestly, a #8 screw will work just fine with plywood. My go to fastener for plywood is #8 x 1 3/4" with a #17 tip. RE: Confirmat screws - Cooler - 04-02-2018 (04-02-2018, 12:23 PM)KLaz Wrote: You must use the step drill. Especially on plywood.
