Restoring a Globe Vise #22 - bennybmn - 04-02-2018 So I've decided to go with the vise on the right (Thanks for everyone's input on which vise). https://photos.app.goo.gl/LbTLW6X5KUVN6xtM2 It says "GLOBE VISE 22" on the front. https://photos.app.goo.gl/h8j6A4GfOMHihLFz2 Has anyone taken one of these apart before? It looks like it has peened pins holding the locking mechanism and handle on. Will I need to grind them off and replace them with something when I'm done? I'd like to take it apart as much as possible to thoroughly clean and paint it. https://photos.app.goo.gl/a1pmkF832TNrg3nw1 https://photos.app.goo.gl/sbu2sJhuoglUZ1sK2 I've apparently lost my ability to post pics, so I put links. If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong... EDIT: OK figured out how to get it. What's surprising me is that I'm used to just the code popping up while still in edit mode, not the whole shebang. I now see in quick edit mode just the code pops up, so I could edit the width if I want that way I suppose. RE: Restoring a Globe Vise #22 - bennybmn - 04-04-2018 Anyone? Beuller? Would this be better in the hand tools forum? RE: Restoring a Globe Vise #22 - bennybmn - 04-11-2018 Well I got it apart. A couple night's soak in penetrating catalist and the nut and bridge on the end of the rods popped off. RE: Restoring a Globe Vise #22 - barryvabeach - 04-11-2018 Glad you got it done. Sorry I can't offer any advise, not familiar with that vise, though I think a good general first step is to soak everything in some fluid like you did. RE: Restoring a Globe Vise #22 - MarkSingleton - 04-13-2018 What's the plan? Are you going to repaint it too, or just get it working right? RE: Restoring a Globe Vise #22 - bennybmn - 04-17-2018 Repaint. I picked up a sandblasting gun for the big stuff RE: Restoring a Globe Vise #22 - bennybmn - 04-17-2018 So yeah I soaked everything I could in evaporust and it cleaned up nice! Need to get the big parts done now. |
