Which BS tires? - Cecil - 06-04-2018

I need to replace the tires on my 14" Jet BS.  I find urethane tires at ~$54 shipped at PS Wood, and $30 shipped on Amazon, and many in between.  I will pay extra for quality, but are PS Wood's urethane that much better, or do they all originate in the same oriental factory?

I've had good luck with these gents:  http://sgtool.com/

I've purchased about four sets of the orange tires for different, smaller saws.  They continue to work great after almost ten years now I'm guessing.

Another vote for sgtool.com - recently used them to order replacements on my older delta 14”. Cost was very reasonable and happy with them to this point, though they’ve gotten limited use so far.

The guys on OWWM.org have stories about problems with polyurethane tires, saying traditional rubber ones have an advantage except in installation. I think this has to do with larger saws than 14", and that the more easily installed tires are fine for smaller saws, but I don't know.

I think that is correct, especially when it comes to having to crown tires for saws having no crown machined into their wheels.

OTOH, sgtool.com now offers urethane tires with a crown.  They aren't inexpensive and I have never used one, but they look promising.

My rubber ones have lasted 15 years and still good. I don't know why I would go with anything else that costs so much.

I'm not suggesting anyone replace functional tires.

The OP indicated he needed to replace tires, and I'm merely pointing to an alternative.

I’ve only replaced my 14” BS tires one time several years ago, and went with the set from Rockler. I was surprised to see they were actually made by a leading brand that was often recommended here but I cant recall the name (again it was many years ago). They have been problem free and I would most likely opt to get the same ones again should the need arise.
