swamp smell, wet dog.... - vapochilled - 09-08-2018

I'm sure I posted this before, but maybe I'll get a new lead to investigate.
All doors and windows closed, all is good.
Weather plays fair and we want to open doors and windows, suddenly the sinks/drains have an odor like a wet dog/swamp
Anything in the dishwasher needs cleaning again and I have to run a bleach cycle to clean the smell from the dishwasher, washer is fine though.
Vents check out, P traps have water....
This has been going on for several years, we're at the the point we want to move!!!
What the hell can it be?
Neighbors don't suffer from it

I just had that and found that the drain before the p trap had a layer of greasy crud built up cleaned that out and now no smell.

What difference does that make

smells can be the first sign of septic tank problems.

Also different venting situations.

My septic system has smelled a few times after hard/long rains.

Some possible help here:

I might use an incense stick with the house sealed and also unsealed, and see if I can check drains and air intakes for radically different performance characteristics.  Like, when the house is sealed, the incense stick smoke just hangs near the drains, but with the windows open, one or more of the drains is pushing the smoke away.

that Bob Vila link was interesting, we have an s-trap in the bathroom I'm renovating.  Maybe I should put in a Studor valve
