Church table bases finished - WoodworkerTom - 03-29-2019

The lady's at the church approved my prototype so here are the three additional pieces for tables in our lounge area.

Used 6/4 ash primarily. Mortice and tennon.

Almost had major accident template routing, my hand slipped a little at end of shaping and felt the pattern bit cut the hair off my index finger by the knuckle. Did not get my skin, God must be watching over me on this project. Whew!

All in $400 for the 4 bases.

Nice work with a very ecclesiastical look.

What many of us neglect to do when planning pattern routing is to allow plenty of lead in and run off on the pattern -3 or 4 inches is a good minimum, that way you are far less likely to get your hands anywhere near the bit.  Far better to "waste" a bit of ply or MDF by making the pattern bigger than lose the end of a finger, not to mention spoiling the work by getting blood all over it!
