Wranglerstar just showed off a 12,000lb winch for around $600 that looked real nice. I would suggest checking him out on YouTube.

Wire rope on my winch. I guess from working aviation for ever I am more comfortable with wire than synthetic rope.
Worked with control cables so I know what I am dealing with.

double braid dacron line doesn't stretch nearly as much as nylon. Put the largest size that will fit on winch.
How about a strap?
