activated my SawStop cartridge - cme4dk - 06-24-2019 Metal touched the blade and activated the SawStop cartridge. I removed the activated cartridge, replaced it and reused the blade, however the cuts do not seem to be as clean as before. Have others found that the blade is damaged after the cartridge stops it? Jay RE: activated my SawStop cartridge - Stwood_ - 06-24-2019 I heard they always trashed the blade beyond use. Maybe they've changed things. No, I don't have one. RE: activated my SawStop cartridge - Handplanesandmore - 06-24-2019 Official advice from SS (FAQ) - "When the safety system activates, it will sometimes damage one or more teeth on the blade. Some users discard and replace the blade, while others choose to have their blades inspected/repaired by a qualified specialist." I would not use a blade after the activation without it getting checked, as any loose tooth could shoot like a bullet. Simon RE: activated my SawStop cartridge - fredhargis - 06-25-2019 What Simon said: I'd inspect it and evaluate whether it's trashed (cracked plate, bent tooth, etc.), if not send it in for professional inspection/resharpening. I would not put it back on the saw and continue on. RE: activated my SawStop cartridge - R Clark - 06-25-2019 I activated one some years back when the extruded aluminum fence on the my miter contacted the blade. I didn't try to extract the blade from the brake block. I eventually gave the whole fused blade/brake assembly to a local HS teacher; they have SS saw(s) in the school shop. The teacher uses it as an object lesson when starting the year out with the safety lessons. Maybe I'd try to salvage the blade if I buried a Forrest WWII Blade in it, but my blade was a mid-range Freud combo blade that already had a couple of sharpening sessions on it. No way would I have put the same blade back on the saw immediately without a close inspection for damage and then a sharpening, regardless of brand. RE: activated my SawStop cartridge - Mr Eddie - 06-27-2019 The blade could easily have a defect that can't be seen with the eye. Be safe - start with a new blade. Lonnie RE: activated my SawStop cartridge - BloomingtonMike - 06-27-2019 If it is a good blade, send to Forrest and have them inspect and sharpen. Will be good as new if they send it back fixed/sharpened. RE: activated my SawStop cartridge - daddo - 06-27-2019 Do those things go off when you hit a small nail or staple? Nope, unless your body part is in contact with the metal bit at the same time. Someone had a youtube showing cutting off nail embedded in a 2x4 on his ss. Simon RE: activated my SawStop cartridge - EightFingers - 07-01-2019 I’ve cut through staples and small nails on my SS. So far I haven’t set of the brake. |
