That's slick how the staves magically switched from being lined up in the glue-up to being offset in the turned piece.

Beautiful work.

How many staves are there in one layer?

Thanks again everyone,.... There are 35 pieces in each row they were cut and hand sanded on both sides up to 320 grit from a saw cut that's 140 surfaces before it was glued up I used thin CA.  I also sealed all of them w/ CA this made them stronger for the hollowing process and after I sanded them once again w/ 320 sand paper on a tong depressor before finishing.

This is due to the radius cut of the sphere, the pieces are not cut on an angle they taper in toward the center the gap gets smaller as they go in toward the center.

He split the middle ring, rotated it, and glued it together again

Thanks Woodshop....  I thought Tunner 52 was talking about the taper in the slots, yes as woodshop said I cut it apart in the center and reglued it 

offset hence the name "Shifting Meridian"
