Here's the new router table! - shoottmx - 10-29-2019 Back in May in this post I asked the Woodnet brain trust their thoughts on using a tool cabinet as a router table base. After some discussion I decided to build a modified version of Norm's table to incorporate an Incra fence. After sketching out the changes I'd want to incorporate in Norm's design to utilize the Incra it became obvious to me that the tool cabinet was a more effective way for me to end up with a router table. I bought the Craftsman cabinet at my local Lowes and ordered the top from Incra. Everything else I had bought used over the past year or two. A 3 1/4hp PC, Woodpeckers PRL1 and an Incra LS17 fence. Other than cutting the router hole and mounting the top, the only changes to the cabinet were to the drawers. Removing the top two didn't allow enough room for the router so I removed larger the third drawer and replaced it with the top shallow drawer. The slides were pop riveted in place so just drilled them out to remove, the cabinet was pre drilled so reinstalling was a snap. I fabbed an access door for the router using the pull from one of the drawers. Here's the completed table: [attachment=21438] [attachment=21439] [attachment=21440] [attachment=21441] Comments welcome, thanks for looking. g RE: Here's the new router table! - Stwood_ - 10-29-2019 That turned out real nice. I kinda like it. RE: Here's the new router table! - Big Dave - 10-29-2019 That turned out pretty dang cool! I'm curious if you find it a bit low to work on comfortably? Dave Love the clean shop, too... RE: Here's the new router table! - wood-chips - 10-29-2019 Nice setup, when can I order mine RE: Here's the new router table! - fredhargis - 10-30-2019 I think that worked out really well, nice! RE: Here's the new router table! - R Clark - 10-30-2019 That came out very well. IIRC, I was skeptical when you first explained your plan. But I think I think you pulled it off just great! Enjoy using your new router table! RE: Here's the new router table! - shoottmx - 10-30-2019 (10-29-2019, 11:16 PM)Big Dave Wrote: I'm curious if you find it a bit low to work on comfortably? Dave, Thanks, I like a neat, clean workspace. It's 39" high, a little higher than workbench height but it feels comfortable. Will be giving it a workout over the winter so hoping I find it to be a good working height. Looking for an Incra Wonder Fence add-on. If anyone has one laying around not being used give me a shout. Incra's lead time is 7-9 weeks. Grrrrr. g RE: Here's the new router table! - mound - 10-30-2019 very cool! Nice idea and well executed.. I may have to steal this idea RE: Here's the new router table! - Dan Moening - 10-30-2019 That's a great rendition of your original design idea! I'm probably wrong but ... won't the feed direction be from the back of this table? i.e. the side with the dust port? RE: Here's the new router table! - Halfathumb - 10-30-2019 Great idea but, if this is your shop it's way to neat & clean. I thought I'm a clean freak. But this is taking it to an all new level |
