keeping glue from freezing - MauleSkinner - 11-16-2019 I know...take it in the house! My shop is a (mostly) unheated garage. Does anybody have any ideas for a small "warming oven" to keep my glues from freezing? Maybe something I could run on a thermostat. An old refrigerator and a light bulb will work too but is pretty big just for glue. WOOD magazine has this https://www.woodmagazine.com/wood-supplies/glues-adhesives/how-do-i-prevent-glue-from-freezing-in-my-unheated-shop Al RE: keeping glue from freezing - stoppy - 11-16-2019 (11-16-2019, 08:06 PM)MauleSkinner Wrote: I know...take it in the house! In the past I’ve used an Omaha Steaks insulated shipping box with a nite lite installed. Much like the WOOD magazine article. Has worked for years. This year shop will be heated all the time albeit the thermostat turned way down at night. RE: keeping glue from freezing - toolmiser - 11-16-2019 Buy the brand made with spring water! Sorry I had to try to be funny! RE: keeping glue from freezing - Aram - 11-16-2019 (11-16-2019, 08:06 PM)MauleSkinner Wrote: I know...take it in the house! I asked this question also... RE: keeping glue from freezing - AHill - 11-16-2019 The light bulb heated box trick works. It's basically how outdoor soda machines keep things from freezing. You will need to choose a bulb that puts out heat. Sometimes, LED's won't heat enough to work. Old style incandescent bulbs work best. Likewise, you don't want to be gluing projects in an unheated garage below 50 degrees. It won't cure properly. Either do it indoors, or shine a heat lamp on it for at least a few hours. RE: keeping glue from freezing - MauleSkinner - 11-17-2019 Thanks all! Looks like the light bulb thing is pretty simple. AHill...Yes, I need to make sure the wood is at a reasonable temp as well. We just get a few cold snaps here, and then things warm back up again, so I'm looking more at a week of storage before I go back out in the shop. Aram...Apparently my search skills aren't that good. I actually DID look for something. RE: keeping glue from freezing - MauleSkinner - 11-18-2019 Just to increase the Rube Goldberg effect, what do you guys think of adding a baseboard thermostat to the cooler/lamp circuit? I’d think it would be best served to have the thermostat inside the cooler... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FZkSCud6tIY RE: keeping glue from freezing - Stwood_ - 11-18-2019 Look around for a junker apartment size frig and turn it into your glue heater. Or as above, build a box |
