Box building books/references? - Ray Newman - 11-17-2019 Thinking about doing some box building this winter, and I would like to review a few books for ideas and tips. A Fellow Woodworker suggested Doug Stowe. Looks like he authored several books, but is one better than Stowe's other books? Also suggested was "52 Boxes in 52 Weeks" by Kenny. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance. RE: Box building books/references? - fall - 11-17-2019 Here's a great video that I have and I also took the class with him. The video covers every thing he did in the class I took at Mark Adams School of woodworking . The things learned in this video can be used for all different kinds of box's. It can be seen on the Fine Woodworking link as well if you are a member. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&ved=0ahUKEwixusTvs_LlAhUIWK0KHYfUDOoQMwhAKAIwAg&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bookdepository.com%2FFine-Woodworking-Video-Workshop-Series-Veneered-Boxes-with-Twist-Adrian-Ferrazzutti%2F9781627109543&psig=AOvVaw3VcqczkJGTXaB8cIoVqFaQ&ust=1574119939292737&ictx=3&uact=3 Do a Google search for more review's of the videos RE: Box building books/references? - KLaz - 11-17-2019 I have Kenney's book. It's more about design and with 52 boxes it gives you a lot of ideas. There about a couple dozen pages that talk about technique, but Matt talks more about the design and thought into each of the boxes. It's certainly a great reference to have to get the design juices flowing. Also search YouTube. Lots of great help and ideas there. RE: Box building books/references? - EricU - 11-19-2019 there is a thread on here that lists a number of box making books RE: Box building books/references? - Woodworm! - 11-19-2019 Box making book thread https://forums.woodnet.net/showthread.php?tid=6176625&highlight=box+making+books RE: Box building books/references? - Ray Newman - 11-19-2019 Woodworm!: many thanks for the link. Kenny's book walks you through his 52 boxes in 52 weeks focusing on design changes, not woodworking techniques. What makes to book special to me is over the 52 weeks Kenny is playing with a small number of variables yet produces quite a range of looks. It's quite a different book than the '400 Boxes' book, and to me quite eye-opening. |
