Shaun, since this flatulence contest is winding down, I have one piece of advice, get a bigger planer.

Sharpening a hand tool is a prerequisite to using it efficiently and safely ... and if you thought this thread was bad.....   You will be amazed by all the sharpening systems people can shill. Just remember, rocks on your beach, mountain or neighbor's retaining wall and the good concrete God put in front of your yard will do it, too.

Once you have the blade sharp, the nuances of chipbreaker clearance from the blade edge will have you standing on your head, literally; and yield 3 pages of discussion.

I won't get into fettling and tuneups. I drew the line there.

At the end of this nightmare thank your lucky soot covered stars you can open up the Wayfair catalog.
