I currently have a 6” grinder, but would like to upgrade to an 8” slow speed if I can find a deal on one sometime. Thanks for the heads up about the stones/bushings. To be honest I haven’t thought that far ahead yet. I don’t even know what grit the stones on my grinder are, that tip very well may come into play.

Ken Rizza really help me a lot on the CBN wheels and grinder.
This is what I got. It was the 180 and 600 CBN wheels plus the Rikon grinder and the Self-Aligning Spherical Washer which keeps the wheels from wobbling and stays straight.

The one below came with one wheel and I selected the 180 CBN and paid extra for the 600 CBN. It is a 1/2hp and if I did it again I would get the 1hp motor

I use the Lee Valley tool rest. I prefer to grind mine freehand since my gouges have an Ellsworth grind on them. Other tools like scrapers, skews or parting tools, don't need any specialized jig to sharpen.
