They get $15/BF for the best old growth heart pine.
Gorgeous stuff.
My old growth heart pine flooring was $2/BF.

We had a contractor lay t&g oak over a ply subfloor a few years ago. No paper or felt. It squeaked for about a month and hasn’t since.
I did the upstairs hallway and kid’s bedrooms myself last year. I used a vapor barrier the flooring supplier had. No squeaking at all.
Personally for the time and expense you are laying out the paper or barrier is cheap insurance. The hammer stapler is also fun to use ?
