Newly Rehabbed Langdon Miter Box - Hank Knight - 07-27-2020

My daughter is an artist and a professor of studio art at a college in DC. I have slowly been collecting the gear she needs to make her own frames. A week and a half ago, I found a Millers Falls Langdon 74C miter box on Craigslist for $75. I drove to North Carolina and bought it. It is missing the rear depth gauge and associated attachment hardware (knurled thumb screw and curved washer) and the end-stop gauge bars, but otherwise, it is in pretty good mechanical condition. I've spent the last few days rehabbing it, starting with the saw. I finished the box last night and here are the beauty shots:

If anybody has spare depth gauge parts for Langdon 74C you can part with, I'd love to purchase them from you. Drop me a PM.

Thanks for looking.

Hank

Nice work on the restore.

I have one of those setups (not restored) that is also missing the depth stops.  I got some friction lid supports at ACE Hardware to see if I could make them work.  Haven't gotten to that yet but the look like good candidates.

Wow, very nice Hank! I’ll be dropping mine off for a facelift the next time I’m down your way! Just kidding, but it does look great.

Phew, Hank, that red is bright! I needed to wear my sunglasses to look at it
Smile ... but nice work and jealous that you have a daughter to share the passion with. Hopefully my son will do so one day.

Regards from Perth

Derek

It is pretty bright, Derek! But my daughter's an artist and she likes it, so it' good enough for me. Also, it's what I had on hand. I was more worried about the gray paint. I bought a spray can labeled "stainless steel." It turned out to be a bright silver, which I thought a bit garish for a miter box. She liked it too, so I'm calling it done. ?
