Edit: Needing a new mind - Wild Turkey - 08-26-2020 Got to digging in my old barn and found some oak I bought at an auction 15-20 years ago and thought it was ruined in the fire. It wasn't. Thanks for all the help!!! Original post: Found out today that my BIL is coming for a visit and he would love to help me put the railing on my new deck. (Owes me for helping him move, etc ) Problem is he is arriving Sunday night to work Monday. But my local source near Louisville has mostly quit sawing and now only brokers deals so I'm out of luck there. Next source hasn't returned message so I'm hoping someone has a good contact within a reasonable driving distance of Louisville. Still trying to beat numbers into compliance but looks like 50 bf of 6/4 and maybe 200 bf 4/4. Most will be ripped to 3" so width not a big problem. Need most to be 8' or better and could cut 12' pieces into two good pieces. Anyone got any help???? RE: Needing some white oak and local source has dried up - TomFromStLouis - 08-26-2020 I’m in Saint Louis and probably have it. Have to look for the 6/4 RE: Needing some white oak and local source has dried up - Wild Turkey - 08-27-2020 Thanks, Tom. I may have found the 6/4 I need but still looking for 200bf of 4/4. Gotta go dig through some lumber before it gets too hot RE: Needing some white oak and local source has dried up - fredhargis - 08-27-2020 I don't know what "reasonable" means, but Frank Miller in Union City IN almost certainly has it. Looks to be 200 miles +/-. RE: Needing some white oak and local source has dried up - Halfathumb - 08-27-2020 You might try G W Green, he's in northern Indiana but he's great. I personally visited there before I started buying from him. Now I just have it shipped but if I had more storage room I would rent a truck and a bunch of different species. His web site is here http://woodsbygwgreen.com/ Good luck Jim RE: Needing some white oak and local source has dried up - iclark - 08-27-2020 WoodFinder.com Quote:VISIT THESE WHITE OAK SPECIALISTS RE: Needing some white oak and local source has dried up - Chuck 80 - 08-28-2020 (08-27-2020, 06:24 AM)Wild Turkey Wrote: Thanks, Tom. Try calling TinyTimbers in southern Indiana and see if they have it , good people to deal with and very good service and quality they are in Madison In. https://tinytimbers.com/contact/ RE: Edit: Needing a new mind - iclark - 08-28-2020 (08-26-2020, 04:46 PM)Wild Turkey Wrote: Got to digging in my old barn and found some oak I bought at an auction 15-20 years ago and thought it was ruined in the fire. Really great news that someone found something they needed in their accumulations _before_ they bought the replacement. This might not be a good time to tempt the plumbing spirits. Who was that source? Wondering because I will be needing some lumber soon and hoping that is not one of my sources. RE: Edit: Needing a new mind - Wild Turkey - 08-28-2020 Bagdad Lumber can still get you what you want but they need a little more time than they used to. Other guys are 3 hours away The guy I dealt with in Boston is now with a quarter-sawn only operation but he knows some sources. |
