So - at least in my house - real wood furniture is the way I recycle or reuse.  Of course all furniture I build I try to make it 100% wood; there is some plywood but never chip board.  I rarely use MDF. 

I think if a person likes to change decor every few years it makes sense to go cheap.

I think you're talking about the trendy crowd. It's a good thing for "modern furniture" businesses that the trendy crowd exist. Who could stay in business selling a new kitchen table or bed to a customer or their descendants every 100 years.

I hate to see real wood or stone in hotels, restaurants, particularly fast food, because I know it will be trashed in a few years.
