Wood question: spruce? - overland - 02-14-2021 I picked up a long 2 x 6 recently that's pretty clear. It's marked spruce, fir or pine, and it's from Canada. Is there any assumption I can make about the species given that it's from Canada? I'm building a skin-on-frame canoe and am looking for spruce, if I can get it. In the past I've found some spruce from northern Europe at Menards--it's marked spruce--but it's exceedingly hard to find a board that's clear. RE: Wood question: spruce? - Turner52 - 02-15-2021 No way of knowing by the designation on the piece. Construction lumber and likely tooo wet to use for much else. RE: Wood question: spruce? - Cooler - 02-15-2021 There are plenty of vendors for that. I did a search: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&ei=JsoqYPr-FOHl_QbW_Z_4Bg&q=clear+spruce+for+boat+building+near+me&oq=clear+spruce+for+boat+building+near+me&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAMyBQghEKsCMgUIIRCSAzIFCCEQkgMyBQghEJIDMgUIIRCSAzIFCCEQkgMyBQghEJIDOgcIABBHELADOgUIIRCgAVCEelixjgFgqJEBaANwAngAgAGDAYgBzgmSAQM5LjSYAQCgAQGqAQdnd3Mtd2l6yAEIwAEB&sclient=gws-wiz&ved=0ahUKEwj6qb7YzuzuAhXhct8KHdb-B28Q4dUDCAw&uact=5 "Clear spruce for boat building near me". I'm not sure it will transfer to your address; you may have to type in the search yourself. I found three vendors within 60 miles of my house.
