Apparently kids don’t carve their initials in trees anymore... - MauleSkinner - 05-30-2021

My daughter and her boyfriend graduated from high school yesterday, and he’s off to Basic Training tomorrow. He gave her a keepsake...

I'm sure the trees are grateful.  Sweet gift; and I guess the old fudge tale about never giving someone a knife outright (it should always be a "sale," in which the recipient gives a penny back, so that the knife doesn't cut their bonds of friendship, or love in this case) has died out.

This is actually the second knife that’s been gifted in the relationship...she was trying to figure out what to get him for his birthday, and we went down the rabbit hole of pocket knives, throwing knives sharpening equipment (all stuff that he had), and ended up with a kit for a liner lock knife. She picked out some nice wood that I cut into pieces for the scales, so he could either book match or have the grain flow through the handle.

It is pretty much frowned upon for kids to have knives and evil they are.

When I was a kid every boy and some girls hand one.  Being on the farm mine was in use everyday or when i was 7 I found a way to use it.

Same here...my mom let me carry my pocket knife on Saturdays when I was five.

The Boy Scouts taught me how to properly handle, use, and maintain a knife. When you passed the test, you were awarded your Totin' Chip card.
