Dustless De-Nib, a few years late - C. in Indy - 07-05-2021 Things get delayed sometimes. A big project for Spring 2017 was this pine Wardrobe. If I recall right, I finished it with a Union No. 2 plane, and a single heavy coat of Tru-Oil. To be honest, it was a little 'furry' but it was very functional for the mother-in-law. [attachment=36223] Today I remembered my polissoir and took another look at that wardrobe, now richened in color from 4 years of aging. I ran the polissoir over the whole thing and it's a lot smoother to the touch now. No dust, either! I made my own polissoir a few years ago and while I don’t use it often, it does make a great finishing tool. RE: Dustless De-Nib, a few years late - iclark - 07-06-2021 Would one of you like to educate us on that tool and its use? RE: Dustless De-Nib, a few years late - Mike Brady - 07-06-2021 Looks awesome Chris! Video showing its use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5al4CtLFebU Comparison with other rush http://donsbarn.com/a-juncus-polissor-iv/ The polissor is a stiff brush that can be used to burnish wood. Some interpret Roubo's description differently from Don Williams. https://sawmillcreek.org/archive/index.php/t-230605.html RE: Dustless De-Nib, a few years late - Timberwolf - 07-06-2021 (07-06-2021, 01:02 AM)iclark Wrote: Would one of you like to educate us on that tool and its use?............... Ivan, I just checked Youtube and there are several videos describing their use, but here's a link to making one out of a new "whisk broom" that looks to be about the simplest way one could be made...I may have to buy a new whisk broom!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U5_Ipyfjxo RE: Dustless De-Nib, a few years late - Greg Jones - 07-06-2021 Here’s a picture of the one I made. It’s 2” in diameter and 4” long. I took a 1-day workshop at the Berea College broom making department and each participant made 3 ‘brooms’. I made a whisk and a duster broom also. Actually, the whisk broom looked a little like Cousin It after removing the stitching.
