Just an update..remember that rusty mitre box I was going to just toss?   Well....
[attachment=37979]
Hmmm...
[attachment=37980]
Might have to keep it around a while.  patent  date is from 1961...back when I was about 8 years old.....saw is also OEM to the mitre box....not too bad,,,for just a $1....

RE: Week end Rust Hunts - stav - 09-29-2021

Very good, I'd say.  For $1.

Steve, when you go to that great workbench in the sky, the missus is going to have one heck of a yard sale!

RE: Week end Rust Hunts - bandit571 - 10-09-2021

Hopefully enough to pay the Undertaker.

Decided that the Mitre Box needed to lose that warped old plank...
[attachment=38098]
But there was a couple problems to that...
[attachment=38099]
Someone had nailed the legs to the plank....must have been doing trim on the house...Roofing nails?
[attachment=38100]
Old Estwing claw hammer MIGHT have driven the nails in,,,but, not nearly enough room to get the claw in there, and yank the nails back out.  A "Cat's Paw" won't work, either ( can't find mine, anyway..)leaves one other Carpenter's tool to use...
[attachment=38101]
No...this is NOT just for Blacksmiths....Carpenter's Pincers....Have a couple smaller ones down iN the shop...this pair just happened to be still upstairs...Pulling nails seems to be it's "strong suit"...maybe a minute per nail...
[attachment=38102]
Nothing to it.   Which means I can NOW look under the hood of this "machine".....
[attachment=38103]
Not much to it.   Need to evict the spiders.   The 3 lobed thingy?    To set the angle you want to cut, loosen it a bit...set the angle, and tighten it back down...need to haul this to the shop ( next time I am allowed to go) and clean off the rust, oil the moving parts a bit....maybe a spot of black paint where needed....and maybe a new deck?   Then I can rehab the WS backsaw that came with it ( OEM, at that!).....handle needs shaped better( too boxy...)Plate will get a good clean up...."etch" was probably a silk-screen, no great loss.....Teeth still seem sharp.   $1 Miterbox to travel to any Job Site.   trim a door or window?  Hmmm.
