Record plane parts source? - Bill_Houghton - 05-05-2022 Anyone know of a plane parts seller who carries parts for Record planes? I'm looking for the depth stop and thumb screw for a Record 778 duplex rabbet plane. RE: Record plane parts source? - Admiral - 05-05-2022 Honestly, you should look for some used tool dealers in the UK; shipping is going to kill you, but it is what it is. If it will work, I have a depth stop from a 78, sans screw, that you can have. Perhaps he knows a guy who knows a guy... RE: Record plane parts source? - Bill_Houghton - 05-07-2022 I was playing around with the plane in the shop last night, trying to figure out what the size and pitch are for the depth stop clamping screw. It's not a #10 (fine threads, but too small for #10, too large for #8); it doesn't appear to be metric. I suppose it could be a British Association thread. At any rate, I'd be grateful if someone who has a Record plane with the depth stop clamping screw could measure diameter and threads per inch for me. If the pitch is close enough, I might be able to retap it to an American machine screw size. RE: Record plane parts source? - Bill_Houghton - 05-08-2022 I got the answer from a helpful member on Woodworking Australia's forums: 3/16 x 24 BSW, which I can likely retap to American standard #10-24. RE: Record plane parts source? - Admiral - 05-09-2022 I had to google BSW, and found this discussion interesting and may be of some help to you in making your retapping choice. https://britishfasteners.com/threads-bsw |
