Neutral wire - Scouter - 07-09-2022

Ladies at church want me to install a timer for outdoor lights, something easy for them to figure out (one suggested this: (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-Decora-Preset-Resistive-Inductive-60-Minute-Countdown-Timer-White-R22-LTB60-1LW/316126725)

It requires a neutral wire. Problem is that the existing switch only has the hot wire into the box, the neutral is 40 ft away, on the roof, with no real access. Can I run a separate neutral from the service panel?

I would get one like this:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Woods-20-Amp-60-Minute-In-Wall-Spring-Wound-Countdown-Timer-Switch-White-59717WD/203638996
Cheaper, easier to use, easier to install. Similar ones are available with a longer duration if you need it.

Neutral not required on option 2.

Thanks, I understand that as an option. But I'm dealing with seniors who, because of arthritis, have problems with twisting motions that the spring timer requires.

Unless there is another model that doesn't require the neutral wire, you will need to run a new wire to the box.

OK, so I just need to run it to the box, not to the fixture. That's what I needed to know. Thanks.
