Something for August - bandit571 - 08-06-2024 Maybe replace this...thing. [attachment=52085] That is hanging on my bathroom wall? [attachment=52086] MIGHT recycle the hardware? Problem, other than being cheap and ugly ( WalMart's finest) is that it does NOT match the rest of the cabinets in the Bathroom...not this.. [attachment=52087] Nor this.. [attachment=52088] I think I can do better....we'll see...have about 15bft of Ash on hand.... Stay tuned..waiting on Moose & Squirrel Express to deliver a Plan to the shop....maybe even a cut list? RE: Something for August - bandit571 - 08-06-2024 As delivered... [attachment=52102] and maybe a cut list? [attachment=52103] Hmmm, ok... 2 panels have been glued up...will be turned into raised panels later... [attachment=52104] Goal is to build a frame to house them first... [attachment=52105] Something like this? Joinery at the corners? [attachment=52106] Mitered Half Laps....to where the double bead turns the corners... [attachment=52107] Already have a start on the frames.. [attachment=52108] Stay tuned if you get bored... RE: Something for August - bandit571 - 08-07-2024 Cardio work out is done, for this morning.. Simple Jig.. [attachment=52111] There is even a "Locking Screw", to keep the part from flying off the edge... [attachment=52113] Beads were made with.. [attachment=52115] A Made in QUE. CAN. Stanley No. 45, type 20 SW...About every 2nd or 3rd pass.. [attachment=52116] I have to stop, and clear all the strings, as they clog up the works...LOTS of stringy things... [attachment=52117] So....results? [attachment=52118] 16 beads are now done. Needed these and the grooves done, BEFORE the joinery and begin... Stay tuned...Mitered Half Lap corners are next on the "To Do List"... RE: Something for August - bandit571 - 08-07-2024 Test run...test run.. When is a Miter Joint not a Miter Joint.. [attachment=52128] Even though it LOOKS like one from the outside? Then, when you look at the same joint from the inside... [attachment=52129] Hmmm... One done...only 7 more to do... Stay tuned... RE: Something for August - bandit571 - 08-08-2024 Spent about one hour IN the shop, today...had some joinery to do...and then a dry fit.. [attachment=52135] Started working on frame #2.. [attachment=52136] When I started seeing little red spots... [attachment=52137] Never felt either of them...I guess that Harbor Freight chisel might just be sharp enough? Project is now "Official" Finally.. [attachment=52138] Both door frames have been dry fitted, and measured for their Raised Panels...10" x 10-1/2" panels.... Maybe tomorrow, I can trim the panels to size,,and "Raise" them...will see about a rebate around the inside of the panels... Stay tuned.. RE: Something for August - bandit571 - 08-09-2024 Went to trim the panels down to size...and had a kickback happen.. [attachment=52146] yes, I had a shirt on...and it still left a mark.. Bevels were sawn.. [attachment=52147] At about 15 degrees...and rebates were milled.. [attachment=52148] But..they needed to be deeper..so.. [attachment=52149] Clamp things to the bench vise.. [attachment=52150] Depending on grain direction..as the 79 was without either a fence or a depth stop..marking knife to score across the grain as needed.. Dry fits until... [attachment=52151] It fits all the way on...flat..rotate the panel..repeat..8 rebates needed done.. Dry fits? [attachment=52152] Note to self: When doing beveled edges, do NOT stop in the middle of a pass...burn marks tend to show up.. This afternoon.. [attachment=52153] Glue & Clamps...this is the "inside" of the door...the "outside"? [attachment=52154] This will be the face that shows, when the doors are closed up....burnt panel has been cleaned up..and is also sitting in it's clamps, waiting on glue to cure.... Plan right now? Is to get these 2 doors cleaned up, tomorrow..and then start on the case that they will be going on.. Stay tuned.. RE: Something for August - bandit571 - 08-11-2024 Clamps have been removed.. [attachment=52160] Will see about cleaning them up, later today... need to start ripping box sides to with, today...so.. [attachment=52161] Will be using this "machine" to rip and cross cut the sides of the Cabinet's "Box"...and decide how the corners will be joined...and a rebate to house a 1/4" plywood back.. Grain details... [attachment=52162] As I seem to like showing off the grain in a Project... As for working on Mondays? [attachment=52163] About says it all.... RE: Something for August - bandit571 - 08-11-2024 Hmm..a Box usually has 4 sides...so.. [attachment=52168] 1 x 3 x whatever....took 2 planks...needed 2 long ones for the Top & Bottom of the box...and 2 shorter ones for the ends..The long ones were almost thin enough.. [attachment=52169] That IF I were to plane a face or two smooth... [attachment=52170] They would be right at 3/4" thick...the short ones, though.. [attachment=52171] Will take quite a bit more plane work...but, since both faces were still rough sawn... [attachment=52172] That by the time I get the faces smoothed down ( a Before & After photo) I would be right at 3/4" as well.. All the edges needed jointed... [attachment=52173] Might as well use the same plane...Stanley No. 6c....got that done...time to get out some lay out tools.. [attachment=52174] And do a bit of lay out work... [attachment=52175] So I can start on through dovetails. the next time I am in the shop... Needed to sweep up a mess.... [attachment=52176] And call it a day... Stay tuned... RE: Something for August - bandit571 - 08-12-2024 Well....it is a start... [attachment=52183] Sitting down on the job, is it? [attachment=52184] Disston No. 4..sawing lines.. [attachment=52185] Chisels to chop out the waste between the Pins... [attachment=52186] Trace around those pins.. [attachment=52187] Then saw the tails...and then chop out the waste... [attachment=52188] I guess when one needs a mallet to do a dry fit.....checked for square? [attachment=52189] One corner is done... [attachment=52190] Only 3 more to go... Stay tuned... RE: Something for August - MstrCarpenter - 08-12-2024 Love seeing build threads here! I have a nice collection of antique hand tools but still don't have the time to really enjoy them. Many more days like today and I just might have a lot more free time. Anyway; I have a saw almost exactly like yours. There's only half a handle on mine. Could you post a straight on picture of the handle for me? It would be a little easier to print a template if the photo also contained a ruler. I would even consider using a coping saw to cut the rough shape. O.k., maybe I'll only use the bandsaw on the outside. |
