Silicone mat for protecting table saw top. - JDuke - 11-18-2024
I recently bought an extra silicone mat to protect the workbench where I solder, and went bigger than I really needed for that space.
I was doing some glue ups and I frequently use my table saw as a flat reference surface. I really don’t like cleaning glue off the saw, so I flopped the bigger soldering silicone down and really liked it.
now I am thinking about getting something even bigger in silicone so the glue doesn’t stick to it.
You can get the silicone mats to protect the surface of outdoor griddles like the blackstone, I have one on the 24 inch restaurant griddle that I cook in my backyard on.
The problem with most of the griddle silicone mats that I have found, is they have sides that come up at a right angle from the surface.
So now I am off to look for a completely flat silicone mat to cover much of the table saw.

Try a search for silicone sheet. At a quick glance, I saw several approx. 20 x 28 for $13. Even comes in Bob's "Hoover" purple. Almost any size/thickness is available; guess it depends on your budget.

I got one sold as a "craft mat" on Amazon, though don't know that they market one as big as a tablesaw top for that use.

Not sure what they are made of, but you might want to consider those mats used for jigsaw puzzles, I believe they come in various sizes.

Good tip. I have one of the magnetic covers for my Unisaw but they are stupid expensive for what they are.

The craft mat made me think maybe a sewing mat would work well.

Didn't know there was such a thing...but if you wanted magnetic, 24" wide by as long as you want:

Had to borrow this picture from the innner-web but this is what mine looks like. It is 28x44. They still sell them but now they are blank, which is just as well because I never use any of the diagrams, etc. anyway. One plus over the silicone is they're nice for writing on with a pencil and it wipes off with a damp rag. I make notes on mine all the time. They're $50 today at H Valley tools. It was MLCS when I bought mine. I didn't know MLCS changed names.
