A couple of Stanley bailey planes - tablesawtom - 11-23-2024 Both plane have a few blemished on the body. I had a roof leak and and had some moisture damage before I caught it. No need to comment on the roof or moisture damage what little there is. First up is a Bailey 4 1/2 type 12. To my understanding, the difference between a type 11 and a type 12 is the 12 has a high knob. I really do not care about types so I never looked into types, but some do so I mention it because of the high knob. The plane has ben precision ground and was flat within .001 when ground. The plane is probably at least 100 years old and the casting stress is pretty much been relieved so it is probably still flat with in .001 or better. It has been stripped and repainted The knob and tote are both rose wood and have been refinished. The knob has a opts as can be seen in a picture. The blade has also been touch upped reground so there is no pitting at the blade and it need no or very little flattening. The frog has a solid face as can be seen in the photos and it is a sought after plane because there is no side play at the front of the frog making it easier to adjust the blade side to side. The blade is sharp but can probably use tune up. This was my user until I got a Keen Kutter K4 1/2 It is ready to work right out of the box. Asking $130 plus shipping. Any way pictures. I do like the first picture to show it completely apart so no struck parts are hidden. One can see the reflection of the spot on the table on the actual surfaces of the plane. and the end of the lateral adjuster is broken off. The plane has also been precision ground and is flat within .001 or better. The body has ben stripped and repainted. The knob and tote are rosewood. The edge of the blade needs touched up. All in all the #5 is probably the most sold size of plane made, A jack of all planes. It is just an over all and around a good plane to have. Camber the blade and you have plane that will also function as a smoother. Again close fitting frog at the front. Don't know what else to say except asking $110 plus shipping. Or $230 for both and they both will ship in the same box. I though I was in the for sale section. I would like to ask a Mod to move it to the correct section. |
