Console table design assistance - brianwelch - 01-20-2025
Looking for some design direction/assistance for a console/sofa table with an top-folding leaf looking to pair with industrial cast iron legs. The table will be approx 5'-6' long, and around 12" wide (expandable to ~2'). Table top is similar in function as in the link below, except only 1 leaf not 2. I like the idea of straight/telescoping supports, but not sure how to implement and still provide adequate support. Pivoting wing-arms would work, but unlike a traditional drop leaf table, they will be visible when the expansion leaf is stored on top. I am sure there is a way to disguise them, if there are no other options...Would/could drawer slides work?
Thoughts???

With one leaf it will have to be 12" wide to cover the top. I don't think the same straight supports will work, as you said, but telescoping ones should. And that suggest side mounted draw slides could be used. KV makes some with as little as 9-3/4" extension, which is about all you would be able to fit, and even that might be difficult. Anyway, here's a LINK. One problem with this approach is that you probably will be able to see some of the metal slide when they are pulled out to support the leaf. However, if you connected the two slides together with a false apron in front of the real one, you could make them invisible, I think.
