What bench top jointer? - AlanS - 03-19-2025

I am literally asking 'for a friend'.   He asks:  "What is a good table top jointer?   I do not want to go to Harbor Frieght".   Thoughts?

I had one similar to this that I used for a few years. It worked fine for small stuff but basically convinced me to buy a larger machine.

I wouldn't recommend any. A 6" with straight knives. It can be up graded to a spiral latter.

Never used it but the Wen stuff has been getting decent reviews.  Bought the bench top drill press and can't complain.

A 6" jointer won't fit on a table top. The OP asked about a table top jointer, didn't say why. Possibly the OP s friend doesn't have room for a floor standing machine. If I were living in a Condo or some place with limited or no room for 'toys' I'd probably look at one of the Jet benchtop jointer/planers. Or maybe in a really restrictive situation develop proficiency with hand tools, they're far quieter.

I agree with Kurt,  I had a small ( 4 inch ) benchtop jointer -  only useful for really short stock.  Hand tools may be a better option.

The Cutech 8” spiral head jointer can be benchtop.

I have one in the small garage shop and have 0 complaints.

I expect that they are as loud as the portapotty planers with the universal motors.

Does this person have a router table?  If so, you can use an offset fence to make the router act like a jointer for doing edges.
