Black spots on the inside of a Cedar Chest - doobes - 03-22-2025 Dunno if this is the right place for this, but let's try. We have a Cedar Chest that we got from my wife's mother. It's solid cedar, hand made many, many years ago. It's been sitting full of pillows and stuff for quite some time. My wife opened it today and the bottom is full of black spots. Is this mold? It's in the wood, not on top. In other words, you can't wipe it away (at least easily). This chest was flooded in Katrina some 20 years ago. We carefully treated EVERYTHING that we kept after the storm to prevent mold. The bottom doesn't exhibit any of this. If so, how do I clean it? LOML is a bit of a clean freak, and needless to say, it has freaked her out. About the only reason it's not already on the curb is that there is a lot of sentimental attachment to it. Thanks RE: Black spots on the inside of a Cedar Chest - jteneyck - 03-22-2025 Sure looks like black mold to me. There is a lot of info on the web for removing black mold from wood. No personal experience, however. John |
