micro aduuster for table saw fence - thewalnutguy - 04-23-2025

I was trying to adjust the table saw fence to get exactly the width of material to match the Leigh dovetail jig settings, getting close but not exactly what I needed. I searched for something that would help, but nothing I found was what I needed. I sent an email to SawStop, describing what I was afer. They don't offer a micro adjuster for their saw, but suggested a product made by Canyon Fire Tools

https://canyonfiretools.com/shop/ols/products/t-fence-micromag-adjuster-3fadef and that looked like what I was after, so I ordered one (and discovered that I also needed to order a Mag Switch for it). Parts arrived today, installation was super simple. Mounted a dial indicator to my saw table top next to the fence and played with the adjuster's knurled knob. It does precisely what I was after, allowing an adjustment as little as 0.001 inch.

sorry 'bout the duplicate posting, I've tried to delete the "extra" one, with no luck

That little guy was expensive, but if it solves the problem then I guess it was worth it.  My Vega Pro fence came with a built-in micro adjuster.  Cat's whiskers when I need that level of precision, which is pretty rarely.

Looks like a cool little gizmo. My old jetpack fence that came with my unisaw had a really handy micro adjuster on it. I lost it when I upgraded to the unifence though. I had some ideas for.making one but have never found the time to pursue it.

A dial indicator with a mag base is exactly what you want to use when a cut needs to match an existing dimension.  A dial/digital caliper is also necessary.  Make a cut.  Measure with the dial/digital calipers and then zero the mag base of the indicator to the fence and then move the fence the desired distance as shown on the indicator's dial.

Very nice setup, especially with the dial indicator - thanks for sharing! I sprang for this system from Woodpecker's for my SS PCS when they introduced it a few years ago. I don't use it often but it comes in handy when I do. No substitute for precision when it's needed.

Only thing I thought about is if the fence rail is aluminum. Magswitch wouldn't stick to aluminum. The only fence rail I can think might be aluminum is the Delta Unifence. There may be others I don't know about.

The Unifence does come with flip stops that you can set to retain specific settings.

Once had a Powermatic "Artisan" contractor's saw with a Vega fence. That micro adjuster was terrific. I sold the saw and traded up years ago, but I still miss the micro adjuster. I'm going to look into this one.

I have a Wixey DRO on my saw that I fine-adjust with small taps of a hammer against the fence. Works well enough to within the resolution of the gauge, though i sometimes have to take off a few thousandth with a hand plane if I need them to be more exact. Wixey resolution being in the hundredth for the most part. But I do like your solution as well!

Could you post a picture or explain further about the flip stops.

I own a 1998 Unisaw with the Unifence and it doesn't have any flip stops.
