Thank you "Gary G" and "fredhargis" - Bill Holt - 04-26-2025

Back ground: Several days ago, I asked for suggestions on wood filler for hickory.

Many times, it is annoying when someone posts a question, and the responses do not answer the question.  I had a serious question.  No one told me what I wanted to hear!!!!

Thank you "Gary G" and "fredhargis" for giving me the right answers even though they were the very last thing I wanted to hear.  (For those who don't remember...the answer was dutchman.)

WOODNET is such an amazing place, I fail to understand the loss of popularity.  Thanks to WOODNET and the honest answers of many, I truly enjoy woodworking.

Two knowledgeable and helpful members, to be sure.  I think the loss in popularity is due to aging out of many members and not many new ones joining.  And I think potential new members are using other media for information, like YouTube, where everyone who has done something maybe once is a pro.  Whatever the reason, I wish we had more active members.

Soooo, did you get the dutchman done? If yes, how did it turn out? (oh, and thanks!)

You’re welcome Bill. I learned a lot on this forum myself.
In its day….

Yes, I needed to do three, but they turned out so well, I did a fourth.

Thanks again.

As far as the lack of activity and new members, I am under the impression that new members cannot fully join. If you sort the member list by date (asc) you can see it's been 385 pages of 20 accounts each going back to 2018 until you stop seeing "account not activated". I tried to enroll new from a work email address and received no reply.

Also if an existing member needs to reset their password or change their email they are unable to do so.

So there's attrition from nobody joining, old timers dropping out, and regular users getting locked out and unable to get back in.

But to stay on topic, fredhargis and Gary G, those guys are cool.

I didn't see the request, but am happy to help

I forgot my password at one time and sent several emails to try to get it fixed. I never got any replies.

I did eventually remember my password after several tries so I was able to get back on the forum.
I’m wondering if it has something to do with gmail and not WoodNet. I checked the spam folder and nothing there, but I wonder if gmail is blocking certain emails and not telling me.

Not likely; otherwise lots of people would be complaining about this.
However, when people from the EU have a googlemail email which has the same prefix as an American gmail account, it can be a problem.
I get business emails for a guy in the EU, His name@googlemail.com is like my name@gmail.com
Initially, I would forward him the misdirected emails.
I told him to get it fixed numerous times; he didn’t.
I’ve been deleting what I receive for several years.
