And we have a winner.  Pink marble will be explored.  We are now away from the pink ivory idea.  thank goodness! Much appreciate the input everyone.  Saved me an awful lot of money!

Just as a follow up and maybe to help someone in the future, I found a knob from McMaster that I think will work.  Aluminum, should be able to tap some threads for a set screw.  Had no idea the variet...
