For me, the biggest advantage of the miter box is it's portability. I like the idea of using the workmate but I don't need that in my shop. I'll be interested in where this ends up. thanks!

That's kinda weird because I have a D-7 that does the same thing. I always assumed it was because I don't have enough set, but maybe there is more to it. Can't wait to see what you find out.

Is there a possibility to get a longer nipple and build the new collar on the other side as well? That should keep the casting under compression and prevent a possible break in the future.

I like the Diresta videos because he makes nice things with basic tools. It reminds me that I don't need all the fancy specialized tools to do the work.
