Cutting boards are fast and easy to make, and are always appreciated when given as gifts. Also I find my kids love using them as blocks, or gluing them together in random arrangements.

I would add don't forget about the importance of good dust collection, especially in a small shop that is enclosed. It's worth setting aside the space and the money on a good cyclone and filter.

If you want to save some cash, the Dewalt 734 also has the blower assisted dust collection port. Works great with just a shop vac, but fills it up quick.
