You may be thinking about European Beech. European beech is much more stable than American beech. European beech has the reputation of being one of the "great wigglers".

Be careful. Smooth finishes are very slippery. Particularly so if you are wearing socks. I would suggest a floor finish. They tend to be formulated to be less slippery.

My handsrews are treated with an oil/varnish mixture. [br][br]Easy to apply and easy to renew. You can apply a coat of wax so that any adhesive that drips onto the clamps can be easily removed.

Bar Keepers may not have a high a percentage of oxalic acid as straight oxalic acid. You may have to use more or use multiple applications.
