Murray's hair styling products are created largely (but not exclusively) for African Americans so your best bet is to look for their products in stores with a large African American clientele.

I don't pass up $5 or even $10 six inch braces if they are in good shape (or Yankee "Bell System" braces for that matter). Getting around to selling them is another matter.

Where I live (SE Michigan) braces normally go for $5-$10 at fleamarkets, estate sales, and antique malls. . Size, brand, and condition don't make much of a difference.

Your cheapest option would be an old wooden rabbet plane. You should be able to find a good one for $20 or less.

Pure tin is very soft and bends easily. It is also nonmagnetic. The top looks to me like galvanized iron or steel, though it could be tinplated. I'd test it with a magnet.
