I've often wondered if jojoba or the camelia oil are leaving gummy black marks on my stones. I've found it laps off easily, but will end up on the lapping plate as well.

I'd try and take it on by hand if it were mine, assuming you don't have a ton of money sunk in it. Files and flattened sanding belts are slow, but I bet you could get it.

I think it could be redwood, but I don't have much to back that up on. I've got some redwood that has similar graining, and it seems more dense than WRC.
