I like to use wire with rubber coating rather than plastic. It lays better and is much more flexible. The plastic coated ones are like having a garden hose.

I have a couple of them. Are you sure it needs a spring for the self feeder mechanism? Gravity ( when the drill is vertical) works for mine.
